The All Peoples Calendar returns our sense of time from rectilinearity to its circular, spinning nature, while placing worldwide holidays in a single view.

The days and their dates follow along the circumference of the circle. Just within the circumference, the moon phases move.

The 2 central, superposed, jagged figures (one for a.m., one for p.m.) map sunrise & sunset for each day. The concentric rings radiating from center-point represent 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 o’clock, with 4 o’clock as center-point. The point where a day’s radial line intersects the a.m. & p.m. lines marks the minute of sunrise & sunset, respectively.

Conjunctions, eclipses, oppositions are noted just outside the dates. The 2 large triangles with tips meeting at center-point mark the solstices and equinoxes, dividing the year into slightly unequal quadrants. The 12 astrological signs in their 30° sectors frame the page.

A calendar’s complexity comes from the daily, monthly, yearly and astronomical cycles that are not perfectly commensurable. The rotation speed of the earth on its axis is regular, but the speed of its elliptical orbit around the sun is not. Variable speed along an ellipse produces seasons of unequal lengths.

The common year of 2026 (365 days beginning on a Thursday) will also align with (+ 11) 2037, (+ 6) 2043, (+ 11) 2054, (+ 11) 2065, (+ 6) 2071, and so on.
